
My Story



Dave Cannon is a highly accomplished musician with a Bachelor's degree in trombone performance from the University of North Carolina School for the Arts and a Master degree in Music with a concentration in Music Technology from the University of Valley Forge. He retired as a Professional Certified Teacher of Music with Montgomery County Schools in 2024 after 21 years. Dave continues to teach as an Adjunct Professor of Music Technology at Bowie State University since 2007.

Dave toured the U.S., Holland, Germany, and Poland with the Continental Singers in 1983 and The Spurrlows and Festival of Praise in 1984-85. Upon returning to Maryland, he has freelanced as a trombonist in the Washington D.C. area. He has shared the stage and performed with Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, Johnny Mathis, Roy Clarke, and Joe Williams and others. He has been a member of The Washington Redskins Professional Band. Dave is currently, a member of The NoWhere Men band, the Music Director and Lead Trombonist for the Olney Big Band and a regular member of Montgomery College Summer Dinner Theater pit orchestra.
In 1993 Mr. Cannon earned a Recording Engineer Diploma from the Omega Studios’ School for the Recording Arts and Sciences in 1995 and became a staff audio engineer at Omega shortly after that. In 1999 Dave won a Grammy and a Dove Award as an Audio Engineer for his work on the album “Christmas with Shirley Caesar.”
Professor Cannon offers a unique and diverse real-world range of experience and educational background to the classroom setting. Dave’s passion and reward of seeing students succeed drives him to bring excellence to the classroom, recording studio and stage every day.
